Three announcements in the past two weeks say a lot about where inertial sensing is heading.
On 25 October, TDK announced worldwide availability of InvenSense PositionSense, a two-chip, nine-axis offering that pairs a 6-axis IMU with a TMR magnetometer and runs sensor fusion and calibration on-chip. TDK lists drones and robotics among its target applications, and InvenSense CEO Joseph Bousaba said the aim is to keep devices on track “even in a city, field, factory, or location without a satellite connection.”
On 21 October, ARK Electronics released the ARK FPV 32X flight controller, an existing board updated with an ST LSM6DSV32X IMU, offering ±32 g and ±4000 dps ranges. Earlier this month, STMicroelectronics introduced the LSM6DSK320X and industrial-grade ISM6HGK256X, citing drone-flight stabilization, robot teaching and agricultural surveying among their uses.
The common thread: the sensor is only the starting point. What decides real-world performance is the work around it, calibrating the device across operating conditions, fusing inertial data with other sources, and integrating the result into a navigation system the customer can deploy.
That is the approach NavCore is built on: Chip · Calibration · Algorithm · System. Our MEMS IMU and MEMS-INS products are developed together with full-condition calibration and multi-sensor fusion algorithms, so integrators receive a navigation solution rather than a bare component.
It matters most where satellite positioning drops out:
- Robots and AGV/AMRs working indoors, where stable attitude sensing and dynamic error compensation support autonomous navigation.
- Industrial drones in urban or indoor GNSS-limited areas, where IMU data is combined with vision, barometric altitude and GNSS.
- Underground mining, where NavCore’s IMU, odometer and radar fusion solution is designed for continuous positioning of 8 hours or more.
As more devices are expected to keep working without a satellite fix, choosing a partner that owns the full chain from sensor to system can shorten integration time and reduce risk.
